Why could people in Strasbourg not stop dancing for weeks in 1518?
In July 1518 a woman in a Strasbourg street began to dance and could not stop. Others joined her, and by September somewhere between 50 and 400 people are said to have danced for weeks. The authorities tried to cure the dancing with more dancing and made it worse. Why it happened is still not known, and neither is how many died.

Nobody has read a single word of this book. Following the hands it passed through, the signature erased from its first page and the date of its parchment shows how far the case has been carried and where it stops. Decipherments have been announced many times; none has been accepted.

She was seaworthy and her cargo was aboard; her people were not. Following the ship that found her, the port where the hearing was held, the cargo she carried and the missing boat separates what was recorded from what was added later.

Only a century after it was found, once there was a way to look inside, did it become clear that the device computed the positions of the heavens and the timing of eclipses. Who built it is still unanswered.
