Who was Kaspar Hauser, the youth who appeared in Nuremberg in 1828?
On 26 May 1828 a youth of about sixteen was found wandering the streets of Nuremberg carrying two letters. He said he had grown up alone in a dark cell. Rumour made him the lost prince of Baden, and five years later he died of a stab wound. Who he was, and who wounded him, has never been settled.

Nobody has read a single word of this book. Following the hands it passed through, the signature erased from its first page and the date of its parchment shows how far the case has been carried and where it stops. Decipherments have been announced many times; none has been accepted.
Voynich manuscriptThe Voynich scriptRadiocarbon datingWilfrid Voynich+5In December 1872 a ship was found alone in the mid Atlantic, still under sail. She was seaworthy and her cargo was aboard; her people were not. Following the ship that found her, the port where the hearing was held, the cargo she carried and the missing boat separates what was recorded from what was added later.

Only a century after it was found, once there was a way to look inside, did it become clear that the device computed the positions of the heavens and the timing of eclipses. Who built it is still unanswered.
