Were the people who opened Tutankhamun's tomb really cursed?
After Howard Carter's team opened Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 and the excavation's backer, Lord Carnarvon, died the next year, rumours spread that the tomb's openers were cursed. But no curse was found inscribed in the tomb, and of the 58 people present when the tomb and sarcophagus were opened, only eight died within a dozen years. Scholars see the curse as a cultural rather than scientific phenomenon.

Nobody has read a single word of this book. Following the hands it passed through, the signature erased from its first page and the date of its parchment shows how far the case has been carried and where it stops. Decipherments have been announced many times; none has been accepted.

She was seaworthy and her cargo was aboard; her people were not. Following the ship that found her, the port where the hearing was held, the cargo she carried and the missing boat separates what was recorded from what was added later.

Only a century after it was found, once there was a way to look inside, did it become clear that the device computed the positions of the heavens and the timing of eclipses. Who built it is still unanswered.
